From the birth of our very first child, and consequently, from the birth of our very first grandchild, our prayers have continually ascended to our Heavenly Father, pleading for His blessings and protection.
We try as grandparents to be involved with our children and their families. We find it a challenge and a continual concern. We know how important are their strength as families and their testimonies in the gospel. We desire with all our hearts to add what encouragement and strength we can.
A few years ago I attemted a family newletter, but felt that it wasn't right for us. Now, inspired by Matt and Vernice's plan to maintain and strengthen their family ties to the rest of us, we will begin a journey of blogging, with the objective of providing another family link, a place where we invite all family members to participate in whatever capacity they desire, but with a prayer that they will participate.
So, with our own beginning, may I quote a few words from "The Family -- A Proclamation to the World."
"We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny.
"The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. "
Dea and I know that these words are inspired from a Prophet of the Lord. We know they are true principles and when followed will render forth to His children all the promises of a tender, loving Heavenly Father.
We love each of you and dedicate this and our prayers, love, and support to each of you, individually.
